Traditional Sikh Indian Wedding Ceremony Sneak Peek – Rajinder May & Stefany Villanueva

I was recently approached by a friend of a friend of a friend as to whether I would be interesting photographing a small tradition Indian wedding ceremony in Bothell Washington at the Gurudwara Sikh Centre of Seattle. As I don’t have anything like that in my portfolio of images, I gladly accepted. And now that it’s over, I’m very happy I did.

Rajinder (Raji) and Stefany were having a more traditional Sikh Indian ceremony on friday, and then they had another “regular” wedding the next day. After arriving before ANY guests, talking with the building coordinators who didn’t speak that much english, getting my head covering on, and taking off my shoes, I was finally allowed into the ceremony location. But once everyone began to arrive and mingle (especially the May family as the groom’s sister is the one I knew), I was greeted like family.

The ceremony was roughly an hour long with different prayers being said throughout in conjunction with Raji and Stefany having to do certain things. It was a little tough as much of it was not in english and I didn’t know the customs as to what was coming next that my lens should be pointed at, but in the end it was a lot of fun and I think I was able to get some fantastic images that the couple and their families will love.
