Over time, I’ve kept track of various questions that I’m frequently asked in reference to weddings and my wedding photography. Recently, I wrote them all down and wrote answers to each one. I then put those on my website under the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section. I decided to also post all those questions and answers here on the blog just in case you never saw them on the site.
1. Where is your pricing information?
You can see what’s included in the every package on our Pricing page and then head over to our Contact Us page to inquire about how we can help provide exactly what you’re looking for. We very much look forward to hearing from you.
2. What is your photography style? Photojournalism? Experiential?
I mentally cut the day in half photography-wise. The first half would be your more traditional style. Meaning I’ll be giving direction as to where and how to stand, face, look, pose, etc. This being said, I try to pose as if we’re peering in on an intimate moment in your life. The goal here is to capture an intangible feeling in a photograph, not just pretty facing smiling at a camera lens. The second half of the day we switch to photojournalism mode. We try to be a fly-on-the-wall as much as possible without intervening much. The goal being to document the rest of the day as it unfolds without influencing the images.
3. How many images do we receive from your wedding?
With a focus on quality, we deliver roughly 50 – 75 polished images per hour of shooting. This tends to be 400-800 images depending on the length of the day, the number of locations involved and the number of your guests.
4. Best time for a wedding?
It is a good idea to start your ceremony at least 1 hour before sunset.
5. When will we get our photos?
A sneak peek of your wedding will be complete within one week with a more thorough image viewing session to follow. We will book a viewing session between four and six weeks after your wedding where we present your images to you. You will also have the option at this session to purchase products through our services at a discounted rate.
6. What file type do you photograph in? RAW or JPEG?
All images are shot in RAW format, developed and optimized, and presented in JPEG format.
7. How long have you been a photographer? Why weddings?
I’ve been shooting for about 6 years. I shot my first wedding for a friend on a budget several years ago and got the wedding bug right there. Most wedding photographers seem to be woman as I feel you really have to tap into deep emotion to really capture a wedding and many guys aren’t comfortable with that. When I first started photographing, I never wanted to shoot weddings. I didn’t care about all that lovey-dovey stuff, not to mention the high stress involved with covering such events. But I was surprised when I found myself unintentionally smiling while attending several of my wife’s friends’ weddings. I found myself drawn into the emotion of the day. A wedding day is one of only a couple in one’s life where they aren’t afraid to show their true feelings (yes, even the guys). Capturing that emotion in a photograph for you to view for the rest of your lives became my goal.
8. How do we reserve you for our wedding?
Fill out our Contact Us form. We will be back in contact as humanly possible to answer any questions you may have and begin the booking process. After you’ve decided on a package, we’ll send you a contract to sign, you’ll pay a non-refundable deposit and then we black out that day on our calendar. It’s that simple.
9. Do you take credit cards?
Yes. We take cash, check, and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). We wouldn’t want you to miss out on your credit card rewards programs.
10. How long will formals take?
Depends on how many formals you want and how many people will be included. Usually formals take between 30-45 minutes. Doing all of the formals before or after the ceremony speeds things up considerably (preferably before). Otherwise time is wasted setting up the lights and rounding people up twice instead of once.
11. Camera gear?
I use top of the line Canon gear. Here is a link to the gear I’m using now. There is a reason why two seemingly identical lenses may have a $1000 price difference. While 75% of the final image is a result of the photographers’ vision and experience, having the right tools for the trade helps create better images.
