Over this past holiday weekend, Sarah and myself stayed up at my parents’ lake property here in Washington. Our friend’s Ian Ludwig and his wife also came up for the weekend. One of the nights, Ian was busy making that evenings fire as well as taking some film shots using his Hasselblad 500cm camera. I had brought my camera gear as well as my lighting bag so I asked Ian if he would mind if I took some shots of him and maybe do a little impromptu photo shoot. He happily agreed.
I busted out my portable light setup consisting of a light stand, an AlienBee AB800 studio strobe with Vagabond Lithium Mini battery pack, a Westcott 24×36″ soft box, and wireless triggers. After trying a couple different poses with him, he really gravitated towards holding the two hatches that we around. After a couple of those, I noticed the bright moon behind him and managed to get a cool photo with it in the background.
Lastly, I wanted a shot of him using his amazing film camera so I waited for him to find a shot he wanted to shoot and then adjusted my lighting to capture him.
What do you guys think about these shots?
At one point we were venturing out into the woods looking for cool spots and I turned around and saw this next shot. He was taking this picture.
This last image I just really liked. It’s a view from the lake back towards my parents’ house.
