I recently purchase some new photographic lighting equipment and wanted to test it out. I asked on Facebook if anyone would be willing to model for me so I could test out the new equipment. Turns out it was Brian’s birthday coming up and he wanted some nice portraits of himself.
We ended up planning on shooting in Kirkland, more specifically Juanita Beach on a Saturday afternoon. The lighting equipment I was testing was a new 24″ x 36″ soft box from Westcott. You can see this in the behind the scenes image below.
This isn’t the first time I’ve shot Brian. I’d photographed him last year in an action shoot centering around his pretty amazing soccer abilities. You can see a pretty incredible image of him here. However, this time around, I was going for just some straight up killer portraits.
I’ve also been trying to subscribe to the theory of getting the image as best as possible in camera and thus reducing post processing time.
We shot for about an hour and ended up with some really good images. Pretty much a perfect shoot other than the giant Blue Heron that flew out of the bushes right behind me and scared the you know what out of me. After that happened though, I dialed in some settings into my camera that would allow me to catch it mid flight and had Brian scare it out of the bushes again. See below.
