Holy smokes was this one put together rather quickly. Nick and Haena contacted me about a month before their wedding asking if I was available to photograph it for them. Turns out I was. They are now a “3rd generation” wedding couple of mine. Nick and Haena are friends with the groom from a wedding that I photographed last year who’s bride was the sister of the groom of a wedding I photographed the year before that. Wedding client inception.
This was technically their THIRD wedding together. How could that be?! Well, they were married at a traditional ceremony in South Korea with most of Haena’s family in attendance. Then they were married in New York with a small wedding (to make it stateside-legal), and finally was the wedding in Seattle with all of Nick’s family, as well as many of Haena’s family members.
This wedding definitely wasn’t the easiest one I’ve done. For starters, Nick and Haena live in New York City and wouldn’t be in town here in Seattle until the week of the wedding. We also planned to do an engagement style shoot on the Wednesday before the Saturday wedding. After talking on the phone and emailing back and forth I was finally able to meet them that Wednesday. The shoot went great and the pictures came out even better.
Fast forward to the wedding day that had a pretty intense timeline. Haena’s hair and makeup at Gary Manuel’s salon, Nick getting a shave at Acme Barbershop, first look, bridal portraits, and family shots before the catholic mass at St. Mary’s Church. Unfortunately after hair/makeup, shave, travel to the church, setup, and getting dressed, we completely ran out of time for any formal pictures before the ceremony. No biggie.
After a beautiful mass, we shot the family photos inside the church, then let everyone head off to the venue while we quickly completed Nick and Haena’s portraits. We then jetted off to the venue, grabbed the rest of the wedding party and got those needed images. Then it was party time at the Palace Ballroom.
With 200+ people in attendance, I thought for sure that many people would start leaving as the night went on but that was not the case here. Everyone was up and talking with people, having some drinks, enjoying the delicious food, and dancing the night away, all in celebration of Nick and Haena’s beautiful love for each other.
