Grampa-In-Law’s World War II Pictures

I never met Sarah’s grandfather, Donald Floyd Berg, but everything I’ve heard of him yields me to believe that he was a pretty incredible person. He served in our military for many years. He fell in love with and married a beautiful Norwegian woman who was with him until his last breaths. Sarah’s grandmother, Gudrun Berg, who I had met (she has since passed as well), was an equally amazing person. After Don got out of the military, his job at Bonneville Power took him all the way through to retirement.

When spending time with Sarah’s family one time, they mentioned that Don was actually a bit of a photographer in the military. This piqued my interest and upon probing further, they unearthed a book of images that he had made and captioned. I was blown-away by these images. They were a raw, unedited glimpse into the past and the actions that took place during a very dark time. I felt that people needed to see this images. I took each page out and scanned them into the computer so I can present them to you here.

All these images were taken from the island of Peleliu where the Battle of Peleliu. Please note that some images may be mildly disturbing.
